An exciting modern housing design for a block of 18 new affordable flats in Weymouth on the former St Nicholas Church site.
Extensive discussions with the conservation officer took place to ensure that this contemporary building respects its sensitive conservation area setting whilst providing high quality design.
It was important to ensure that the position of the new building maintained the sea views for the neighbours to the rear, and that they were not overshadowed in line with the “right to light” rule.
The aesthetic of the front elevation has taken influence from the rhythm of facades on neighbouring properties so that it successfully integrates into its surroundings. The scheme predominately utilises buff bricks which can be seen along the neighbouring roads.
Each unit has its own external terrace and artisan ironmongery features throughout. The apartments sit within a landscaped garden that incorporates cycle storage.
