Unique sedum curved roof

This dwelling is located in coastal West Dorset with views of downs and open countryside.

WDA were appointed to work closely with the clients, to fulfil their long held ambition to build their own eco home.

The self build owners wished for ‘a house of its time’, a home that was light and warm, with environmentally friendly features and large windows to take advantage of sun and views.

Championing sustainable house design

The new build house is constructed from ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms). This offers excellent thermal properties plus a quick and precise building process .

The barrel roof includes a large overhang for solar shading in the summer months. The sedum roof boosts biodiversity, providing habitats for insects as well as, offering storm water attenuation.

Photovoltaic panels add to the building’s eco credentials to produce electricity and work in hand with the installed ground source heat pump. Importantly the green roof, helps the new home blend into its surroundings, softening the neighbour’s view of the house in what had been a tricky planning process.
