Conversion of a redundant cowshed barn to create three new homes at Bradford Abbas near Sherborne under Class Q Prior Approval.
One of several redundant buildings on this former medieval farmyard site in Dorset, the cowshed was blessed with extensive panoramic views over open countryside.
The barn buildings are within the curtilage of the nearby Grade II* Tithe Barn which is also a scheduled ancient monument. The main house is Grade 2*.
The asbestos roof has been replaced with corrugated metal sheet. Horizontal timber cladding on the external walls give a contemporary appearance whilst retaining the agricultural aesthetic adjacent to the Grade II* ancient tithe barn, a scheduled ancient monument.
Internally the original steel roof trusses have been retained, left exposed and painted with red oxide to express the history of the building.
