Renovation work underway at Oakley Farmhouse

We’re making great progress on refurbishing the main house at Oakley Farm near Sixpenny Handley, after successfully converting the historic timber barn into a residential accommodation.

The roofs have all been stripped and timbers are being repaired on site. The original chimneys have been repaired and relined, with one chimney stack being replaced as it was a later unsympathetic addition.

Damage was being caused to the existing brickwork below layers of unbreathable paint – this has now all been removed using the DOFF cleaning system using superconducted steam, rather than abrasive products.  Though it’s a slower process, it works well on soft brickwork and avoids surface damage.  The impermeable paint has been removed, leaving the original lime mortar and render insitu.
