We are extremely pleased to have gained planning consent for a new thatched cottage with a contemporary extension, to replace a Grade II Listed cottage in the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
Sadly, the external wall of the original Listed building collapsed in 2022. Following extensive discussions with key parties and consultants such as Planners, Conservation Officers, SPAB and Historic England, it was agreed that the cottage would need to be demolished.
WDA designed a sensitive replacement echoing the original cottage, on the same footprint and retaining the original building line.
The ‘new’ rear extension has a more contemporary aesthetic to create a clear contrast to the traditional cottage.
We were thankful that the planning process was straight forward, despite its sensitive nature. All parties collaborated and worked together to agree the best way forward.
The new house will be inspected on building completion and delisted. However, we are content in the knowledge that the cottage will live on in its new form for years to come.
Take a look at the project page to find out more about this replacement home.
